Steve Bannon, former Trump White House chief strategist and host of the popular “War Room” podcast, has seen My son Hunter and his verdict is an unqualified rant, calling it an “absolutely brilliant film” that “everyone should see”.
“Absolutely brilliant film. Everybody should watch this,” Bannon said during an interview Friday on his “War Room” podcast with My son Hunter star Laurence Fox, who portrays Hunter Biden in the film.
Bannon, a successful documentary filmmaker, also praised My son Hunter director Robert Davi, calling the iconic actor (Goonies, License to kill, Die Hard) a “national asset” that is “underutilized”.
“Let’s just say this: You’re going to watch it a few times,” Bannon said of My son Hunter, which is available now for streaming and download. “It’s so good and so fascinating. And the reason is that it’s not completely linear and it’s not quite colored by numbers. And that’s why I think it’s so profound.”
He added: “It’s a lot of fun, but there are deep lessons and a lot of information.”
The audience seems to agree with Bannon’s assessment, giving My son Hunter a 90 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while establishment critics continue to blast it as part of the news media’s desperate attempt to continue burying the Hunter Biden scandal.
My son Hunter Star Laurence Fox recently said he wears the film’s negative reviews as a “badge of honor”. Meanwhile, a number of other media outlets have raved about the film, including The Epoch Times, Hot airand MOVIEGUIDE.
“You would have thought that Hollywood would be over [the Hunter Biden story],” Bannon told Fox, adding that many British outlets continue to deny the authenticity of the laptop from hell.
“I’m very concerned about the state of Western civilization, in general, which seems to be destroying itself from within, and the Bidens seem to be getting away scot-free while Americans have spent four years trying to impeach a president-elect in legitimate way.”
This concern over the seeming lack of consequences for Hunter Biden’s corruption scandals — even as the Trump family finds itself the focus of what many have characterized as a “witch hunt” — was also noted by SiriusXM podcaster Megyn Kelly in a interview this week. “Lots of lawsuits against Trump — not one for Hunter Biden,” Kelly said on her show Thursday.
But Bannon, a former executive chairman of Breitbart News, sees such films My son Hunter as heralding a turning point highlighting the corruption that will become the focus of action if Republicans regain control of Congress in November’s midterm elections.
“This will be the second article of impeachment of Biden,” said Bannon.
Although the film is a dramatization, My son Hunter is based on solid reporting of Biden family corruption obtained from public records. The screenwriter of the film Brian Godwa emphasized this fact in an interview with The UK Daily Mail.
“I drew dialogue from actual incidents or documents, transcripts or emails reported in the media as the basic language of Hunter and Joe’s characters, many of them actual quoted lines,” Godawa said. “And a lot of it was taken from Hunter’s actual emails from his laptop. I drew from Hunter’s eulogy for his brother Beau for his depiction of his relationship in the film.”
Investigative author Peter Schweizer, whose best-selling books were the first to report on Biden family corruption, also testified to the authenticity of the film and its damning indictment of Biden family corruption, as Breitbart reported:
During a panel discussion about the film at Truth Social, Schweizer called out My son Hunter a “short version” of his 300-page best-selling book about Biden family corruption.
“I think what people will get in this film is information taken from the pages of my book and turned into flesh,” Schweizer said.
In fact, Schweizer said the truth about Hunter Biden’s corruption seems almost too wild for fiction.
“It’s such an incredible story in a way,” Schweizer said. “I mean, imagine if you were a screenwriter and you went to the producers in LA and said, ‘Hey, I’ve got this idea for a movie. Will be [about] the son of the vice president. He will receive tens of millions of dollars from the Chinese. He will be a coke addict. And then he will leave his laptop computer at a repair shop. And this thing will happen [be made public], but the mainstream media will try to cover it up.’ I mean, the producers would just laugh out of the room. However, that is exactly what happened.”
Fox said he approached the role of Hunter Biden with empathy, but not necessarily sympathy.
“I tried to make him a human being, humanize him, but at the same time show what terrible, terrible things he has done to the welfare and prosperity of the United States.”
Indeed, many scenes in the film portray actual events from Hunter Biden’s dubious business dealings with foreign powers.
As Breitbart News reported in an extensive series of articles highlighting the facts behind the film, the factual scenes include Hunter Biden receiving $5 million in a settlement with his Chinese business associate, Patrick Ho; and Hunter signed a $1.5 billion deal with a Bank of China subsidiary just 12 days after he visited China with his father, who was then Vice President.
My son Hunter, marking Breitbart’s expansion into film distribution, was brought to the screen by producers Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney (Gosnell movie, FBI Lovebirds: Undercovers).
McAleer and McElhinney’s Unreported Story Society raised the film’s $2.3 million budget from 30,000 donors, a fact McAleer said testifies to the public’s desire to see this story told.
The film stars Laurence Fox (Victoria, Inspector Lewis, The Professor and the Madman) as Hunter Biden; Gina Carano (The Mandalorian, Deadpool, Theft) as an agent of the Secret Service; and John James (Dynasty) as Joe Biden.
